I'm flying to Ethiopia tomorrow to begin another photography tour in this amazing country. This is a portrait from a previous trip. This woman belongs to the Hamar tribe in the Omo River Valley, and I photographed her against a piece of black velvet. You can never go wrong with using black behind pretty much any subject. It is stark and dramatically draws attention to the subject. The lighting is simply diffused light from an overcast sky. I prefer telephoto lenses for most portraits, and here I used a 70-200mm set to 155mm. The settings were 1/320, f/4.5, and 500 ISO.
