Besides polar bears, my photo tour group also have had the chance to photograph two different kinds of foxes -- red and silver. This red fox contrasted beautifully with the snow-laden underbrush. You can't see it clearly in this picture, but he is missing most of his left-front leg. Sadly, he got caught in a steel trap designed specifically to catch and kill foxes for their skins. The only way out of it was to chew the leg off. I can't imagine the pain this little guy went through, but fortunately he survived the terrible ordeal. He can still hunt, but not well. Local people leave food out for him which helps him survive. I shot this with 437mm of focal length, and my settings were 1/800, f/8, and 8000 ISO. We photographed the fox early in the morning and the light was still diminished which is why the ISO had to be so high.
