When you photograph reflective subjects like this Buddha in Myanmar, watch the exposure. Monitor what you're getting on the screen on the back of the camera beause the bright highlights will adversely affect the meter reading. This is particularly true if the bright spots are in the center. If the image is a bit underexposed (this is how the highlights affect the exposure), use the exposure compensation feature to tweak the image in 1/3 f/stop increments. In addtion, use the highlight and shadow sliders in Adobe Camera Raw or Lightroom to tone down the highlights and open the shadows, respectively. In this way, you can end up with a perfect exposure. It was very dark in the temple in which I photographed this Buddha, and my settings were 1/30, f/16, 400ISO. I used a 70-200mm lens, and the camera was on a tripod. No flash was used.
