One of the best tools for processing RAW files in Adobe Camera Raw or Lightroom is the clarity slider. It sharpens mid tones and makes images really pop. In this portrait I took in Mongolia of an eagle hunter, I also darkened the periphery to force attention on the weathered face. I also desaturated the colors in Photoshop with the pull down menu command Image > adjustments > hue/saturation. The eagle hunters are Kazakh, and next year I'm leading a photo tour to Kazakhstan where my group and I will be able to photograph more of these tough, remarkable people. My settings for this shot were 1/80, f/2.8, 3200 ISO (because it was quite dark at dawn), and I used a 70-200mm lens.
