This is the interior of the Russian Orthodox Church in Riga, Latvia. I usually stand in the middle of the large cavernous main sanctuary because that underscores the symmetry of the architecture. In this case, I wanted to emphasize the sweeping curve of the balcony that framed the background, and I did that with a 14mm wide angle lens positioned way off to one side. Depth of field with such a wide lens goes from about 14 feet to infinity, so a small aperture wasn't necessary to render all of the detail in this beautiful interior with tack sharp clarity. My settings were 1/60, f/3.5, and 800 ISO and I hand held the camera. Even though this is an interior space, I used daylight white balance because most of the illumination came from large windows with daylight streaming through them.
