This is a one-day-old giraffe calf standing next to its mother. The juxtaposition of size immediately caught my attention, and while I rarely cut off an animal's head for artistic reasons, it made sense to do that here. The original background was terribly busy and distracting, so I replaced it with a landscape taken in the same park. At first, I left the background sharp, but I felt it was more realistic to blur it somewhat to match what a telephoto lens does to depth of field. I used Filter > blur gallery > field blur to do that. My settings were 1/400, f/11, 125 ISO, and I took this with a 500mm telephoto. Not all calves survive their entrance into the world because their mothers give birth standing up. That means the calf drops about six feet to the ground!
