This is obviously a composite with a snowy owl and a full moon. Note that both elements are front-lit, which was essential to make this look believable. But if you know photography at all, the composite isn't believable because I would have had to use a telephoto lens to fill the frame with the owl, and that would have meant the depth of field would have been shallow. The moon, then, would not have been in focus. This is one of the limitations in capturing what we see, but now with Photoshop we can circumvent the inherent problem with long lenses. My settings for the snowy owl image were 1/3200, f/8, and 2500 ISO, and I used a 500mm focal length with a 100-500mm Canon zoom. I used this image cropped vertically for the cover of my free monthly eMagazine, Photo Insights, that I just sent out this morning.
