I photographed these stallions on my White Horses of the Camargue tour in southern France. The fascinating thing about action photography is that things happen so fast, and the human eye can't examine the nuances of the action because it's gone or changed in a millisecond. With a fast shutter, a camera can freeze scenes like this so we can study and appreciate the powerful dynamics between the horses. It looks like the horse on the right was going to fall over backwards, but he didn't. Usually we put the two stallions in shallow water, but on this day the horses started sparring before they were led into the marsh. My settings were 1/2500, f/6.3, and 400 ISO. I used a 70-200mm lens for the shot.
