I found this spiral staircase in the Avenida Palace Hotel in Barcelona, Spain. The problem with using a wide angle lens in a situation like this is that one or both of my feet had to be in the picture as I leaned out over the railing. So, in Photoshop, I used a combination of content-aware plus the clone tool to remove it. The lighting wasn't even throughout the stairs, and therefore I had to adjust it using the shadows slider and the highlights slider in ACR to make the exposure appear more even. Due to the mixed lighting -- daylight from high windows and tungsten lighting from ceiling lamps -- I had select certain areas of the carpet that were too yellowish and tweak them using hue/saturation, color balance, and levels. My settings were 1/30, f/9, and 12,800 ISO. I hand held the 16mm lens.
