I photographed this mother coyote and pup during the wildlife babies workshop last month in Minnesota. It was taken in sunset lighting, and you can see the beautiful golden colors that make this kind of light so pretty. The main disadvantage of using auto white balance for all of your outdoor shooting is that it will 'correct' this yellowish light to make it white. That's not what you want at all. Doing that makes the picture dull and without pop. I recommend to my students that they use daylight WB (or sunny) for all outdoor shooting. You will see a big difference in your outdoor photography by doing this. Sure, you can always tweak color in ACR or Lightroom if you don't like the colors, but who wants to counteract the effect of AWB with every picture?
