This picture has to fall into the category of 'A face only a mother could love'! It is a southern elephant seal I photographed on South Georgia island on the way down to Antarctica. The seals allow a surprisingly close approach, but for this image I wanted the compression look of a long lens. Therefore, I positioned myself about 30 feet away and used a 500mm focal length. The diffused lighting I had is my favorite type of illumination for wildlife, and my other settings were 1/800, f/8, and 250 ISO.
