I waited for sunset lighting on the Dolomite Mountains in St. Magdalena Village in northern Italy. I knew it would be amazing. This is one of the prettiest scenes I’ve ever seen. When the sun is very close to the horizon, contrast diminishes. That’s why I was able to show detail in both the shadows and the highlights without resorting to HDR. In post-processing, I did very tone adjustment with the highlights and shadows sliders simply because the exposure was perfect throughout the image. My settings were 1/500, f/4, and 800 ISO. Notice that due to the distances involved and the fact I used a 45mm focal length (on a 24-105mm lens), I have complete depth of field even though the large lens aperture was f/4.
