The Tianzi Mountains in China are spectacular, and they are one of my favorite landscape destinations in the world. They are made of quartz sandstone, and the sheer, graphic peaks mingled with conifers growing in the most unlikely places make for outstanding pictures. The vegetation is green all year, but in the winter these scenes can be embellished with snow and ice. My settings for this image were 1/100, f/8, and 640 ISO, and I used a 200mm focal length for this shot. Most of the time, and especially in the early morning, dense clouds, mist, and fog dramatically engulf the craggy peaks and transform the scene into pure magic. My next photography tour that includes these mountains is January 2026.
