I took this shot of an approaching storm at the Toroweap Overlook in Arizona several years ago on film. I used a Mamiya 7, which is a 6x7cm format (meaning the slides were 6 x 7 centimeters or 2 1/4 x 2 3/4 inches), with a 43mm wide angle lens (equivalent to a 21mm lens in the full frame digital format). I used a tripod, and although the settings weren't recorded, I would have used f/22 for maximum depth of field along with 50 ISO Fujicrhome Velvia. All of my landscape work was done that way without exception. Notice how black the shadows are. We didn't have HDR in those days, and with transparency film you had to expose for the highlights and allow the shadows to become dark or even black. There was simply no other choice. I focused about 7 feet into the frame to achieve complete DOF.
