I posted this image a few years ago, but I thought I would revisit it because it represents a very different approach to macro photography. Instead of the typical out of focus background, which is expected due to the inherent shallow depth of field associated with magnification, I created a picture in which everything is in focus. This is a rhinoceros beetle. I photographed it on a small log without consideration to the background. I used focus stacking to insure every detail of the insect was sharp. I then replaced the original background in Photoshop with a tropical scene from Brazil. I used an f/8 lens aperture for the shot of the beetle, and I took 16 frames that were composited to produce the sharp insect. With very few insect shots do you get a sense of the environment. This is an exception to that.
