I’m in the Omo River Valley of Ethiopia now, and this is the first time I’ve had good enough Internet to post a picture. This is a woman of the Mursi tribe, and they are famous for wearing lip plates that distort and stretch the lower lip. This was started to make their women unattractive to other tribes who would otherwise kidnap them. In sunset lighting, I used a 400mm focal length to blur the background and force attention on the woman and the rifle. My settings were 1/640, f/6.3, and 800 ISO. I used aperture priority. Through the interpreter, I asked the woman to face in such a way that the low angled sun lit her face from the side. I took some shots where I included the full length of the barrel, but I like this version better because it’s a tighter shot of the woman.
