In the past 2 weeks or so I've been posting favorite pictures taken during winter, mostly from my wildlife workshops. The collection would not be complete without a snowy owl image. I've been doing this workshop now for 6 years, and in every workshop, the shots everyone gets of these stunning birds are outstanding. This female is flying just a couple inches above the snowfield, and to be honest, it amazes me the AF system can track the bird and keep it in focus. There is hardly enough contrast for the camera to detect movement. I used all 61 focus points available on my camera, and my settings were 1/3200, f/11, and auto ISO. Given the bright white environment, the ISO ended up being 1600. This wasn't bad at all considering the thick overcast and the fast shutter speed. I handheld my 100-400mm zoom telephoto. I can't say this is my favorite snowy owl shot because I have so many favorites, but this one is at or near the top of the list for me.
