White on white is one of my favorite color themes in nature and with nature subjects. I photographed this lily on a light table in my office where I placed the flower on Plexiglas backlit by florescent tubes. in the old days of shooting film, i would tell you how much you'd have to overexpose from the meter reading to arrive at a perfect exposure. But now it's easy. Simply take a picture, look at the LCD monitor to assess the image, and then use the exposure compensation feature built into your camera to adjust the exposure in 1/3 f/stop increments either plus or minus. In this way, you can obtain a perfect exposure. My goal here was to make the flower seem luminous. Note how there is detail and texture throughout the flower petals. I shot this with a 50mm macro lens, and my settings were 1/4 second, f/32, and 250 ISO.

Daniel Reynaud - I take with me in the field a little gizmo I made. A piece of plywood about 1 1/2 foot square that I covered with felt. One side is white, the other is black . I chose felt so it wouldn't shine if I had to use my ring flash !! A bit crude, but it works !!!
