This is a very unusual shot of a black rhino. I took this with a 16-35mm wide angle lens, and I was kneeling about four feet away. I shot this in a private reserve in Kenya where the rhino was protected 24 hours a day by an armed guard. The protection was needed due to poachers, of course. The animal had been raised from a young calf and was accustomed to people, and that's what made my close approach possible. I even petted him! Because I visited this facility in mid-morning, I made sure the sun was at my back so the rhino was front lit. Otherwise there would have been too much contrast. My settings were 1/125, f/16, and 200 ISO.
