I'm here in south Texas previewing a photo tour I'm leading in the late Spring of 2023. While birds are the main focus, other animals make this area their home as well. Yesterday evening two coyotes came in for a drink in a pond, and it was amazing how well they posed. Actually, they were looking for danger before making themselves vulnerable with their heads down in the water. I was hoping to get a reflection shot, but the place where they drank was hidden by tall grass. I used a 100-400mm Canon telephoto along with a 1.4x teleconverter giving me 560mm of focal length. I've been waiting since July for the new 100-500mm zoom, and I'm supposed to get it in a week or so. We'll see. I really could have used it for this trip. My settings were 1/400, f/11, and 3200 ISO. It was close to sunset and the light was diminished.
