I photographed these wild dogs in Namibia in sunset lighting. I used a long lens, obviously, and that means depth of field was shallow. Therefore, I waited (and hoped) the two animals would become equidistant to the camera so both of them would be in focus. If only one of the dogs were sharp, this wouldn't have worked. One of the advantages of photographing wildlife when the sun is close to the horizon is the catchlight in the eyes is nicely placed and nery effective in making the eyes stand out. My settings were 1/640, f/6.3, and 1000 ISO. Wild dogs seem like they are constantly in motion, so to capture a brief moment with a nice pose doesn't happen often. You have to watch the action through the viewfinder, not directly with your eyes. It's so easy to miss a split-second opportunity.
