Wolves seem like large dogs until they show their teeth. Then you realize what the difference is. I photographed a pack of wolves at a kill a few years ago, and it was a remarkable sight. The wolves fought over the best parts of the deer, and they definitely didn’t understand the concept of 'sharing.' I used a 300mm f/2.8 telephoto. I rarely use the lens wide open simply because depth of field is so shallow. I expected the action to be fierce and fast moving, and this is why I used a fast shutter speed. I didn’t want even the smallest amount of blur. My settings were 1/640, f/4.5, and ISO 1000.

Bob Vestal - Great action shot! Can you share more of the circumstances? Location, time of year (looks like some snow on the ground), etc? Also, looks like you were pretty close even with the 300mm lens.
