I captured this portrait of a young boy in the highlands of Peru near Cuzco with a 200mm focal length. That accounts for the shallow depth of field as seen in the out of focus fabric at the bottom-middle area of the picture. I don’t like that, but the boy’s priceless expression would have disappeared forever if I had taken the time to close the lens down for more DOF. From experience, I know time is of the essence when it comes to capturing fleeting expressions. My settings were 1/125, f/4.5, and my camera was set to 100 ISO. After i grabbed this shot, I took a few seconds to raise the ISO and close the aperture down, but it was too late. The ‘great scowl’ was gone.
