I photographed this caiman in Peru from a boat. My local guide held a flash light on the reptile so my photo tour group and I had enough light to focus. I didn't have a flash with me, so I raised the ISO to 12,800, and the settings were 1/400, f/7.1, and I used a Canon 100-500mm zoom set to 500mm. This is where a 500mm f/4 lens would have been invaluable, but I don't travel with that lens any more to prevent lower back problems from becoming worse. Noise shows up most in shadows, so in post-processing I ran this image through Topaz DeNoise AI and Topaz Sharpen AI two times.
