One of the highlights of my winter wildlife workshop was a Siberian tiger in the snow. It was truly thrilling to see and photograph this magnificent cat. I chose early morning for the photography to specifically have diffused light in the compound, but one portion of it was illuminated by golden sunrise lighting. A few times the tiger walked into the sunlight, and the wonderful colors of the cat's magnificent coat simply glowed. When the tiger was partially hidden by snow-covered tree branches, that made the shot. Instead of simply posing for the camera, this type of image -- at least to me -- looks a lot more natural and very much more compelling. I captured this with a Canon 100-400mm lens at the maximum telephoto focal length, and the settings were 1/1600, f/7.1, and 1000 ISO. I used such a fast shutter because at times the tiger ran and I didn't want to chance any blur in the shot.
