This landscape is so unusual, so unlikely, it almost looks like AI. In fact, it is an area near Page, Arizona, called White Pocket. It is totally surreal and absolutely beautiful. As with much of my landscape photography, I look for a foreground element that I can place close to the camera position. Using a wide angle lens, this exaggerates perspective and depth. In this case, the foreground element isn't especially dynamic, but it was the only thing available given this composition. I used a tripod, and my settings were 1/5, f/22, and 200 ISO. My lens was a 24-105mm set to 24mm. The cloud cover provided diffused light which made the orange sandstone seem super saturated in color. I shot this during the monsoon season in the American Southwest, hence the dynamic sky.
