The red devil vampire crab reminds me of the 1966 Clint Eastwood film, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. This guy redefines ugly! It's native to the island of Java in Indonesia, and it's only about an inch and a half wide. I used a 50mm macro lens along with a ring flash so all facets of the tiny creature would be illuminated. My settings were 1/160, f/32, and 250 ISO. Note that even though the smallest lens aperture isn't as sharp as f/8, it's necessary because depth of field is so critical in macro shots. And the whole point of photographing small subjects is to show their intriguing detail with clarity. The slight amount of softening due to diffraction from an f/32 aperture can be mitigated by using Topaz Sharpen AI. Because the carapace is wet and shiny, reflections from the flash were problematic. So, I used the clone tool in Photoshop to eliminate most of them.
