On one of my photo safaris to Africa,I photographed three white rhinos grazing in an unattractive environment in Lake Nakuru National Park in Kenya. The original foreground was out of focus because I used a telephoto, and much of the ground was dirt. I was very happy with the juxtaposition of the animals, but the environment was disappointing. So, in Photoshop, I replaced the original background with a Kenyan landscape taken in the Masai Mara. To make this look real, I used both the clone tool and the brush tool and added thin blades of grass (essentially thin lines of color that matched the color of the surrounding grass) in front of the feet and partially covering the mouths and noses of the rhinos. This was meticulous work, but it was necessary to make it look like the rhinos were really part of this landscape.
