Today, September 1, is the 81st anniversary of the beginning of World War II. 1.5 million German troops invaded Poland at 4:45am on this day, and Gdansk Harbor, pictured here, was one of the main targets of German bombing. The old city with its 1000 years of history was 90% destroyed. After the war, it took enormous effort on the part of the Polish people and 70 years to rebuild it. I photographed this scene in 2009. My favorite time to take pictures of skylines, cityscapes, and historic architecture is at twilight when the cobalt blue colors in the sky mix with the warm artificial lighting of street lamps and illuminated windows. My settings for this shot were 1/4 second, f/4, and 200 ISO. I used daylight white balance, and in Photoshop I added the crescent moon.

Rosemary Sheel - Beautiful. I see the moon up there...added or not? Only Jim knows! Love the look of these buildings. Good for the Poles for re-building them.
