I took this shot on July 4, 1976 -- the Bicentennial of America's declared (but not won yet) independence from Britain. I was living in L.A. at the time, and I drove down to the Palos Verdes peninsula and found a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It was a stunning sight to see all of these sailboats. I was shooting a Mamiya RB 67 film camera at the time, and although the medium format camera and its lenses were of high quality, the Ektachrome 64 transparency film I was using in the 70's certainly didn't have the pizzazz of digital images. The slide was scanned by an Imacon scanner to convert it to digital.
