I usually don't like to photograph herbivores as they graze. A much more effective picture is when they are alert, or ready for action as seen in their body language. However, this shot of three white rhinos in Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya is one of my favorites because of the juxtaposition of the three animals. Notice the depth of field here. Everything is sharp from front to back, and I feel that's one of the reasons this shot works. There are, in essence, four subjects here: the three rhinos and the landscape. They are all beautiful compelling, and full of rich texture and detail. As such, I believe it's important to show all of that detail with tack sharp clarity. My settings were 1/125, f/22, and 400 ISO.
