This is an iconic shot of fishermen in Sri Lanka. Depending on the season and the currents, these men are rewarded handsomely with a lot of large fish by sitting patiently on a tiny platform affixed to a slender pole secured deeply into the sandy bottom of the beach. Since this picture has been done by many photographers, I wanted something different. So, at dusk I chose a long exposure to soften and blur the movement of the waves. However, with a long exposure, the men would never be tack sharp. Therefore, I took two pictures. First, I shot the ocean with the settings of 4 seconds, f/22, and 100 ISO. Next, I photographed the fishermen with a shutter of 1/125. In Photoshop, I then selected each man (this was a bit painstaking) and pasted that into the ocean scene. I could have added a dramatic sunset sky, but I felt the original pastel colors worked nicely.
