This is Taquamenon Falls in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The yellow color in the water looks like pollution but it is actually tannic acid produced naturally by decaying leaves upstream. I was traveling through Michigan having just come from northern Ontario where it had been minus 57 degrees Fahrenheit with no wind chill factor. That was the coldest temperature I'd ever experienced. At the falls, the temperature was zero degrees Fahrenheit and, by comparison, it felt warm. I took off my parka too cool down! My settings for this shot were 1 full second, f/32, and 50 ISO. This was taken with my medium format film camera, the Mamiya RZ 67, and I was shooting with Fujichrome Velvia transparency film. The slide was scanned by an Imacon scanner.
