I photographed this water cave in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam, from a small boat. I used a Sigma f/1.8 14mm wide angle lens, and because of the extreme width of the coverage I had to make sure there were no distracting elements -- like other boats, buoys, and other manmade objects -- in the composition. That's the challenge with wide angle lenses. It's important to quickly move your eyes around the edge of the frame to make sure you haven't included distracting elements. My settings were 1/400, f/10, and 1000 ISO. In post-processing, I lightened the shadows to show detail in the dark recesses of the rocks. The huge advantage of RAW files is the ability to all the detail in a scene that our eyes see. My next photo tour to Vietnam is Oct. 13-23 and drones are welcome.
