I brought my photo tour group here in Wales to take pictures of hundreds of red kites at a feeding that’s been going on daily for 30 years. Red kites are raptors, thus carnivores. This farm prepares 500 pounds of meat weekly for the birds, and it’s a great photo opportunity to capture them in flight at telephoto range. What is particularly interesting about this particular bird is that it’s an extremely rare leucistic red kite. Instead of being primarily red and brown, it has reduced pigmentation and looks quite light, almost white. There are only 10 known individual red kites in the world with this condition, and we got very lucky today to see one. Only 3 of the 10 are in the U.K. I used a 500mm focal length, and my settings were 1/3200, f/7.1, and 4000 ISO. I replaced the original out of focus sky.
