I've been to Patagonia several times, and only once have I seen lenticular clouds above Mt. Fitz Roy. This is the Argentina side of Patagonia, and there are few mountain ranges in the world that rival this one for sheer drama. Interestingly, Mt. Fitzroy was named after the captain of the HMS Beagle, the ship Charles Darwin sailed on from 1831 to 1836 to explore the fauna and flora of South America. Because of the unusual clouds, the shadows on the landscape created a strong sense of dimension and depth. I took this shot with a 170mm focal length on a 100-400mm Canon zoom, and the settings were 1/2000, f/5.0, and 400 ISO. Note the large aperture; when elements in a scene are far enough away, depth of field becomes irrelevant.
