In this image, you can see why Chinese artists have used the Tianzi Mountains for centuries to create enduring works of art. When the early morning sun penetrates the low clouds and fog, it's simply magical. Exposure is a little tricky as the sun moves in and out of the clouds, but the immediate feedback on the LCD monitor takes all the guesswork out of the equation. It's not feasible to use HDR because high winds usually blow the clouds and fog briskly through and around the limestone peaks, and it would be impossible to align all the images in an HDR sequence. My exposure for this picture was 1/80, f/8, and 640 ISO, and I used a 105mm focal length for the composition. My three favorite landscape locations in the world are the American Southwest, Patagonia, and here in China.
