While photographing birds at a blind in south Texas, a western coachwhip snake slithered into the water. It was definitely a surprise, and all the birds left temporarily, of course. I shot this from as close to water level as I could get, and I used my 100-500mm lens at full extension, and my settings (which were chosen to freeze birds in flight) were 1/4000, f/11, and 3200 ISO. I didn't have time to reset the camera for the snake. I would have used a slower shutter and lower ISO. I cropped this image quite a bit to focus on the snake's face and its reflection, so I then used Topaz Gigapixel to res it up from 5 megabytes to 160 megs. I then applied Topaz DeNoise and Topaz Sharpen (in that order) to end up with the image you see here.
