I am conducting my frog and reptile workshop this weekend in St. Louis. One of the coolest animals we have is this red panther chameleon. I loaned the ring flash that I usually use to a client in the workshop, so I simply raised my ISO and photographed this amazing reptile with the light from an Ice Light. To maintain a fast enough shutter as well as a decent amount of depth of field, I raised the ISO to 12,800 as an experiment to see how Neat Image software handled this much noise. I was very happy to see that it is virtually gone. The original background was an out of focus image of foliage (a 20 x 30 inch print was placed behind the subject), but I wanted a different, more realistic background that completely blurred greenery. So, I used the magic wand tool in Photoshop to select the background. Then I expanded the selection by one pixel (Select > modify > expand) and feathered it one pixel as well (Select > modify > feather). Finally I selected the new out of focus background with Select > all and then pasted it into the new picture with Edit > paste special > paste into.
