One of the most unusual and dramatic landscapes I've photographed is this view of the badlands that surround La Paz, Bolivia. This scene is just a half hour by car outside the city. It is about 13,000 feet in elevation, and that meant I had to walk slowly and not exert myself too much due to the thin air. I shot this with my old Mamiya RZ 67 medium format film camera in the 90's, and back then I carried 40 to 45 pounds of camera equipment. That's probably why my back gives me problems now. For this shot, I used a 50mm wide angle lens (equivalent to a 24mm lens in the 35mm format), a tripod, f/32, and Fujichrome 50 ISO film. This was a totally manual camera, so I took a light reading with a Sekonic L-358 hand held light meter.
