One of my favorite models in Venice is Jeanne-Renee Georjon. Her business in France for many years was the art of making porcelain dolls, so when she makes her exquisite costumes for the annual carnival, her masks are very doll-like. She has posed for my photo tour groups many times, and I thought it would be interesting to composite two of the images together from different years. These are her 2016 and 2017 outfits. I photographed the green one (she made green last February for me because it's my favorite color) in a 16th century palace that I use for one of my arranged photo shoots, and the blue outfit on the sofa is from a bedroom shoot I set up for my group in our hotel. I made a precise selection around the sofa and around Jeanne using the pen tool in Photoshop, feathered the edge by one pixel (Select > modify > feather) so the edge of the selection blended with the new background flawlessly, copied it to the clipboard (Edit > copy), and then pasted it over the palace photo (Edit > paste). I then resized it appropriately.

Jim - Thanks very much, Rosemary. This model loved the image, too.

Rosemary Sheel - This is my favorite of all your beautiful Carnival portraits. The doll-faced masks look more human than the traditional masks. And the background is perfect. I can hear a harpsichord playing!
