Another spectacular staircase is this highly decorated spiral in the Monastery of Melk in Melk, Austria just west of Vienna. Unfortunately, since I shot this, the policy has changed and now photography is not allowed. What a shame. The cathedral in the monastery is one of the most beautiful in Europe. I photographed this with a 15mm fisheye lens. There is no apparent distortion because when you shoot a round subject with a fisheye, the lens can't make the subject 'more round'. Because the light level of this interior scene was so low, I used the largest aperture -- f/2.8. The depth of field comes from the fact that fisheyes have tremendous DOF -- from a few inches away to infinity. My shutter speed was 1/60 and the ISO 400.
