Cape buffalo are not known for their 'tender side'. They are very dangerous, always in a bad mood, and sometimes they charge safari vehicles just for fun. I had never seen this kind of romantic interlude (if I can put this in human terms), so it was a special and rare moment to capture. In the original image, there were two or three out of focus buffaloes behind the subjects, so I replaced that background with a sharp image that seemed to make sense. More and more, I am appreciating complete depth of field throughout the image. That's what we see with our eyes. As I've said before, out of focus backgrounds are a manmade construct due to the limitations of photographic lenses. My settings for the amorous couple were 1/320, f/5.6, and 1600 ISO. I used a focal length of 170mm on a 100-400mm Canon zoom.
