When I'm not on tour, I often look through pictures I've taken in the past and experiment with them. For example, one year during my carnival in Venice workshop I saw a very cool window display of a mannequin wrapped artistically in aluminum foil. I photographed it through the glass thinking it might make a compelling component, and then this morning I replaced the mannequin's face with the face of a beautiful model. For precision, I used the pen tool in Photoshop to make the selection. I then selected the entire 'outfit' of aluminum, again with the pen tool, and replaced the background with a fractal that I generated using the software Ultra Fractal. Fractals are graphic representations of mathematical formulae, but you don't have to know any math to have fun with the program. Finally, I changed the color of the model's eye to match the background. I selected the eye and used Image > adjustments > hue/saturation.
