This is an amargasaurus, a dinosaur that lived 125 million years ago. The only known skeleton was discovered in Argentina in 1984. They weighed about 5700 pounds -- about 3/4 the weight of a female African elephant -- and were 30 to 33 feet in length. I photographed a detailed model and pasted it into a lake at sunrise. The head of the amargasaurus model was actually positioned in an upward pose, but I wanted to create an image that made it look like the giant reptile was drinking from the surface of the lake. So, using the puppet warp feature in Photoshop, I bent the head and neck downward. I then used the plugin ‘Flood’ to create the disturbance in the water in front of the dinosaur. Notice I kept the animal dark; with such brilliant backlighting that’s how it would photograph.
