This is one of the unusual frogs we photograph at my semi-annual frog and reptile workshop. It is a crowned tree frog that's native to Central America. I used a black background and a ring flash, and in post-processing I cloned out the reflections from the flash in the eyes. For the entire macro workshop, I use f/32. That gives me all the depth of field I need. The shutter speed doesn't contribute to the exposure calculation, so I use any speed that synchronizes with the flash -- in this case 1/200. A shutter like this in combination with a small lens aperture means the ambient room light (the workshop takes place in a hotel conference room) isn't a factor at all. My ISO was 800. I used manual focus and moved the camera and 50mm macro lens back and forth until the eyes snapped into focus. The next frog workshop will be held in January, this time in Kansas City, Kansas.
