Sabre tooth cats went extinct about 11,000 years ago. I've always found this extinct species fascinating, and as a wildlife photographer it's disappointing to me that I'll never be able to take pictures of it. The closest I can come is to photograph the amazing skull -- or in this case a replica -- of the skull I bought online. To make the image somewhat realistic, I filled a large plastic container with water, put the cast of the skull in the water, and then put this in my freezer. I wanted to imply that the remains of a long-dead and frozen animal was found in the Arctic somewhere. To photograph this, I brought the block of ice with the skull frozen into it outdoors and used the shade of my house for the diffused light. I used a 24-105mm lens, and my settings were 1/60, f/16, and 400 ISO.
