An elegant C-curve

A shot that I was very much looking forward to taking is the Jacobite Steam Train crossing the Glenfinnan viaduct near Ft. William, Scotland. It's a classic image because of the graceful arch of the trestle, the beautiful, green landscape, and the nostalgia of a by-gone era. There are many wonderful vantage points from which to shoot, and today I chose an elevated hillside that gave a commanding view of the scene. I used a 24-105mm zoom so I could take many different compositions quickly as the train passed. The light rain meant I had to constantly monitor the lens to make sure there were no raindrops on the glass. My settings were 1/1000, f5.6, and 800 ISO. In post-processing, I moved the highlight slider in Adobe Camera Raw to the left to guarantee there was enough detail in the steam.
