I love photographing awesome staircases, and one of the best I've ever seen is in, of all places, a bookstore in Porto, Portugal. The first time I walked into the store (Lello Books) I saw, right away, a sign that said 'no photos'. I thought, "Give me a break." I expect this in a museum, a palace, even a place of workshop, but not a bookstore. So I go up to the cashier and asked if I bought a book, could I take pictures? No, not possible. But, he continued, if I returned the next morning and knocked on the door one hour before opening time, the cleaning lady would let me in and I could shoot. That was fantastic! The next morning I did as he said and I had an hour all to myself to take incredible pictures. At 10 o'clock when they opened, no more pictures. I was a happy camper. I used a 14mm lens for this shot, and my settings were 1/30, f/28, 2000 ISO. I couldn't use a tripod because to get this shot, I had to lean out over the railing and it was impossible to position a tripod to do that. Later in the week I brought my photo tour group into the store before they opened and everyone got these same great shots.
