Usually when you make a composite and the lighting is mixed -- such as sunset clouds over a landscape shot at midday -- the result doesn't work at all. That's why this composite surprised me because the model I photographed during carnival in Venice, Italy was taken in diffused ambient daylight while the background was obviously shot at night. This works. And I didn't have to deal with high ISO settings or excessive noise. I used 250 ISO for the night scene that I captured from a tripod, and the model was taken with 400 ISO. I used the pen tool to meticulously separate the model from the original (and boring) background, and then I pasted her into the night environment. I used a 24-105mm lens for both images. The night scene as shot at 10 seconds and f/11.
